Surrogacy has racist connotations: this is the thought of the Minister of the Family Eugenia Roccella, who articulates the reasoning in an interview with Zona Bianca on Rete 4: “There are two women – she explains – one gives the oocytes, the other is the real rented uterus that must meet other requirements such as having already given birth and being in good health. The giver of the oocyte is chosen through a sort of race selection – the woman must be tall, beautiful, blonde, generally she is from the East – the oocyte of a black woman costs much less than a white woman, with evidently racist connotations . The cost of the operation is very high but a relative figure goes to women”.
The discussion then moves on homoparenting. “I am convinced that homosexual parents can be excellent parents – continues Roccella – this is not the point. The problem is how that child arrived and the fact that parents of the same sex, men in particular, have to resort to certain practices, in particular surrogate wombs. Today we talk about children not to mention the rented uterus. In reality, surrogacy is already a crime today, as is the propaganda of surrogacy, but they have never been prosecuted. So she goes abroad where she rents the uterus of a poor woman, then returns to Italy and asks for the automatic transcription of the child ”.
In Italy various municipal offices, in contrast with government provisions, are recognizing the children of same-parent couples born abroad with heterologous fertilization. “There is the transcript for the biological father – argues Roccella – for the second parent the Court of Cassation has indicated a path, adoption in special cases, for greater protection of the child and for verification of the emotional relationship”.
