Sometimes they come back
It’s undeniable how Jos Verstappen has covered a leading role in the power struggle at Red Bull at the start of the season, with the heated argument in Bahrain with Christian Horner and the subsequent statements to the press which further exasperated an already difficult situation.
Max’s father then had himself photographed in Sakhir with Toto Wolff, fueling rumors about a possible and sensational transfer of his son to Mercedes. In short, if there is one person who is not used to calming things down, it is definitely Jos Verstappen.
Jos will be in Monaco
After the debut stage of the world championship in Bahrain, to ensure a sort of calm – at least apparent – Max’s father no longer showed up at the Red Bull garage. But after six races away from the paddock, Jos Verstappen will be present in Monte Carlo in a context defined by Daily Mail “between embarrassing and potentially explosive”.
It is no mystery that the belief leaked from Christian Horner’s entourage that Jos was actually behind the case linked to the dissemination among insiders of the alleged files with the private conversations between the team principal and the employee who reported his chief for harassment. Verstappen senior’s latest statements date back to his farewell to Newey’s team, once again anything but conciliatory towards Red Bull: “The team risks falling apart. For internal peace within the team, it was important to keep all key figures on board. It’s not a good sign for the future.”
