Reading of the holy gospel according to Saint Mark (4,26-34):
At that time, Jesus He said to the crowd: “He God’s Kingdom It looks like what happens when a man sows the seed in the land: that the nights and days pass, and without him knowing how, the seed germinates and grows; and the earth, by itself, produces the fruit: first the stems, then the ears, and then the grains in the ears. And when the grains are ripe, the man takes hold of the sickle, because the time of harvest has arrived. harvest.»
He also said to them: “With what shall we compare the God’s Kingdom? With what parable can we represent it? It is like a mustard seed that, when sown, is the smallest of seeds; But once planted, it grows and becomes the largest of bushes and puts out branches so large that birds can nest in its shade.
And with many other similar parables he explained to them his message, according to what they could understand. And he did not speak to them except in parables; But he explained everything privately to his disciples. Lord’s word.
Preaching the Kingdom of God was Jesus’ main occupation during his public ministry, his most constant concern: Jesus usually preferred to speak about God through parables, those short stories that today seem so familiar to us, so simple, but that Jesus They served to show him what his God was like and how he behaved with men. To get to know Jesus inside, to get closer to what he thought about God and his reign, we must hear his parables again, as if they were new. And in this effort we must commit ourselves. Letting ourselves be surprised by some detail, paying greater attention to an indication, would mean being able to be surprised by some new detail of God towards us and knowing that in our hearts we are better served by him; They transmit to us, in effect, the God in whom Jesus believed and in whom he preached a God close to life and the normal forms of his realization.
Guillermo took the bus every day to go to work, on the outskirts of the city.
One stop later an old woman got on who always sat next to a window.
During the journey, the woman took out a bag and threw something inside onto the road. She always did the same thing.
Intrigued, Guillermo sat next to her one day and asked her: – Madam, what are you throwing out the window? -They are seeds! Of flowers! – exclaimed the old woman -. I look outside and everything is so sad!
-Do you really believe that your seeds can germinate?
“Surely so,” she answered, “some will fall into the gutter and, over time, they will sprout…” “But they will take time to grow,” Guillermo insisted, “and they also need water.”
“I do what I can,” the woman concluded with a smile, “the rainy days will come.”
Guillermo felt a little compassion for that old lady, thinking that she had lost a little sanity. The old woman continued throwing the seeds from her every day until winter came and she no longer appeared on the bus.
Just at the beginning of spring, while traveling on the way to work, Guillermo, looking out the window, noticed that the entire edge of the road was full of flowers. It was a happy and colorful passage!
Then, he remembered the image of the old woman throwing seeds. She got up and asked the driver about the seed lady. And so she knew that in the winter she had become ill and had recently died.
Guillermo returned to his seat a little and stood contemplating the landscape in silence.
Then he thought: -The flowers have sprouted, but what good has her work done for the good lady? She has not been able to enjoy seeing her work!
Suddenly, he heard the laughter of a little girl who, behind him, excitedly pointed to the flowers and said: -Look, dad! Look how many flowers!
They say that Guillermo, since that day, makes his trip from home to work, with a bag of seeds, overflowing and generous, in his hands… and that he foolishly throws them out the window…
Believing in the God of Jesus, that God who lives and acts within our world like the seed within the field, leads us to live with hope, without daily fatigue taking away our sleep… Whoever allows themselves to be convinced by Jesus and his preaching of Kingdom, you can experience inner peace even in the midst of tribulation… Happy Sunday!
