Former British finance minister Rishi Sunak won the largest number of votes in the first round of voting to succeed Boris Johnson as Conservative Party leader and prime minister, after two candidates were disqualified.
Sunak received 88 votes, ahead of Benny Mordaunt, who received 67, and Liz Truss, who received 50.
The first round resulted in the exclusion of Finance Minister Nazim Al-Zahawi and former Minister Jeremy Hunt.
Johnson had resigned as the leader of the Conservative Party. He continues to remain in his post as prime minister pending the election of a new party leader who will head the government.
