The Strong National Museum of Play announced the twelve games nominated to enter the World Video Game Hall of Fame In the 2024: Asteroids, Elite, Guitar Hero, Metroid, Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Ultima and You Don't Know Jack.
The finalists
“This year's finalists will have the honor of competing to become part of the tenth selection of titles inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame,” explained the director of The Strong's International Center for the History of Electronic Games, Jon-Paul C. Dyson. “Even ten years later, there's no shortage of worthy contenders that have had a huge influence on pop culture or the video game industry itself. These games span the last few decades. Asteroids is an icon of '70s gaming arcade. Myst showed the potential of CD-ROM technology in the 1990s. Neopets became a staple of free-to-play browser-based games as we entered the 2000s. And Guitar Hero, less than 20 years old, has already demonstrated its longevity.”
From today 14 March the public can vote for the games on the company website World Video Game Hall of Fame. One vote can be cast per day until March 21, 2024. The winners will be revealed on May 9 during an official ceremony.
