Among the most discussed episodes of the United States Grand Prix 2022 there certainly was the accident occurred between Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, which generated a strong concern among fans a few moments after the impact. On the long straight leading to turn 12, the Spaniard attempted to overtake his future teammate, with the latter who, to defend himself from the attack, nevertheless invaded the trajectory of the two-time world champion.
The latter, unable to avoid contact, hit the Canadian’s Aston Martin, finishing violently against barriers after taking off slightly. Following this fact, which fortunately did not bring physical consequences to both drivers, the Race Direction held Stroll responsible for the incident, subtracting from him two points from the Super license and penalizing him with 3 positions to serve on the grid for the next Mexican Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend.
However, in the hours following the conclusion of the race, the Aston Martin standard bearer wanted to express his opinion on the accident, defending himself from the accusations against him: “We had a good start to the race – he explained, referring to the pace in the first laps of the race – the car was fine, and for a while we stayed in third position. Unfortunately I had a contact with Fernando, a real shame. There was a big difference in speed and I was defending myself. I left him a lot of space on the leftso I didn’t hold it against the wall. He could have moved to the left sooner or more. Luckily there wasn’t a big impact against the barriers, I didn’t hit anything hard and I’m fine after the contact ”.
