Social work enjoys all aspects of support and care in the UAE, which is reflected in the great interest in civil associations and institutions of public interest, whose role has grown remarkably in recent years, and this is confirmed by the relevant statistics, as a recent report issued by the Ministry of Community Development revealed The number of non-profit entities at the state level of associations and institutions of public interest and social solidarity funds has reached (501) entities, while the number of non-profit societies and institutions of public interest and social solidarity funds declared by the Ministry so far has reached (274), including Civil associations and institutions whose statuses have been reconciled in accordance with Federal Decree-Law No. 35 of 2020, amounting to (222) associations of public interest, (34) civil institutions, and (18) social solidarity funds.
In light of the state’s constant keenness to improve the conditions of associations and institutions of public interest and to consolidate their role in order to support social work in the country, His Excellency Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, revealed new procedures that the Ministry intends to implement that will contribute to facilitating and accelerating the procedures for amending the status of the state. Locally licensed civil associations and institutions of public interest, in accordance with Federal Decree-Law No. 35 of 2020 amending some provisions of the Associations Law, in order to achieve a doubling of the annual increase in the number of registered associations at the state level.
This step is part of the continuous efforts made by the Ministry to unify social work efforts at the state level, in coordination with the competent local authorities, by supervising non-profit associations and not only at the federal level, in a way that enhances the state’s efforts to protect this sector from risks. Exploitation, and in order to achieve the vision of the wise leadership regarding the integration of roles and work with a unified vision to support participation in the process of sustainable social development witnessed by the country, and the Ministry is working on active participation in its consolidation.
In fact, strengthening the role of civil associations and institutions of public interest is in order to consolidate the values of solidarity, and deepen the process of community participation, which ultimately enables the strengthening of social cohesion even more, which is a great goal that the state is keenly keen on, because cohesive and interconnected societies are that can achieve its goals, and perhaps this fact is what enabled the UAE to build its unique development model, as the UAE society is characterized by the predominance of values of social cohesion and cohesion.
