German podcasters can now also offer separate paid content on Spotify, but this has been going on for some time in the USA. But the podcasters have to get involved with a Spotify platform.
D.he music streaming market leader Spotify is expanding its subscription function for podcasts. From now on, podcasters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among others, can also offer their listeners separate paid content – provided they use the Anchor distribution platform, which was taken over by Spotify at the beginning of 2019.
According to the Swedish service, the function is now available in a total of 33 markets. Spotify rolled out the offer in America at the end of August.
According to Spotify, podcasters can choose from 20 different pricing options and initially receive 100 percent of the revenue. A tax of 5 percent is to be introduced from 2023 onwards.
Stand out from the competition
Apple also offers a payment model for podcasters. The iPhone company initially retains 30 percent and after one year 15 percent of the subscription income.
For some time now, Spotify has been investing heavily in the field and has made various takeovers and closed exclusive deals with prominent podcast hosts. The service promises more income through advertising and at the same time wants to differentiate itself from the competition in terms of content. Because the music catalog of the various services is largely the same. According to the company, more than 3.2 million podcasts are currently available on Spotify.
