Storm and waves up to 10-12 m are expected in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea in Kamchatka, a storm warning has been announced. About this December 12 informs GU EMERCOM of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory.
In particular, the disaster will affect the Karaginsky and Olyutorsky municipal areas in the Bering Sea, as well as the Aleutian municipal district in the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, on the night of Monday, December 13, a dangerous wave of 8-10 m is expected, which will increase to 10-12 m in the afternoon.
The department added that the storm warning is valid until the evening of December 15.
“Based on the forecast, as well as on the basis of long-term observations, during the period of a dangerous phenomenon in these areas, the likelihood of emergencies related to accidents and damage on ships is increased,” the press service of the department said.
Shipping executives are advised to take increased precautions.
Prior to that, on December 5, the Russian Emergencies Ministry warned of waves up to 9 m high in the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea off the coast of Kamchatka.
It was noted that there is no threat to settlements. However, the heads of shipping companies, whose ships may be in these areas, were advised to take increased precautions.
