Stop petrol 2035, for the EU “it’s not science fiction” | FormulaPassion.it

European politics continues to discuss the fateful 2035. A year like many others for most sectors, except for the automotive one, since it represents the deadline after which it will no longer be possible to sell new vehicles powered by thermal engines. A deadline which has been debated for a long time, but which has never seen the EU Commission take a step backwards, as confirmed by Frans Timmermansvice-president of the body, who reiterated his position during the debate in the European Parliament on the climate package.

“Set the end of the sale of new cars and thermal vans by 2035 it’s not science fiction – his words reported by Ansa – The automotive industry has made its choice, we must not make things more difficult for them by postponing the finish line ”. Timmermans then focused on the EPP’s amendment against this measure, calling it a “mess“: It was the president of the European People’s Party Manfred Weber who announced the position of detachment from the other majority groups. “The EU is the world leader in the automotive industry, we must face the transition without losing competitiveness, that’s why we are against the ideological approach – Weber said after his party tabled an amendment that leaves a 10% margin on sales of cars that emit CO2 in 2035 – It is not up to politicians to decide on technologies but to engineers, the market and consumers, which is why we do not agree to ban a technology ”.
