NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg opposed the creation of a single European army
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg opposed the creation of a European unified army. This is what he’s talking about stated in an interview with The Economist.
The head of the bloc noted that he welcomes Europe’s efforts to increase defense spending. However, he stressed that the European Union (EU) cannot replace the North Atlantic Alliance.
“NATO should be the main structure, but we welcome EU efforts as long as they do not compete with or duplicate NATO,” the secretary general said.
In the same interview, Stoltenberg said that even if the situation at the front becomes favorable for Kyiv, it will not be able to help but become a member of the alliance for many years to come. The head of the bloc also called not to expect serious decisions on Ukraine at the summit in Washington in the summer dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO.
