Stoltenberg: Chance of large-scale attack on Ukraine very high
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg calls the likelihood of an attack on Ukraine by Russia “very high”. In an interview with the German ARD the NATO chief said it would most likely be “a large-scale attack”.
Instead of withdrawing Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, as Russia itself claims, troops would be added. It would involve nearly 200,000 troops, including rebels from the separatist Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk. Stoltenberg warned against provocations from Russia, looking for a reason to start an invasion.
According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in an interview with the BBC, all indications are that the Russian invasion “has already begun in a sense”. In this invasion, the plan was also to attack from Belarus and Donbas and to surround the Ukrainian capital Kiev. “People need to understand how much life that could cost,” said Johnson from Munich, where he attends the annual security conference.
The British Prime Minister further pointed out that all the intelligence gathered by the West says the same thing. “I fear that the plan we see now could become the biggest war in Europe since 1945, in terms of scale alone,” he said.
