Still Wakes the Deep is the new first-person horror adventure from The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs). So far nothing new. However, did you know that a teaser game which introduces the scenario? No, right? It seems that no one noticed, in fact.
Given what we’re talking about, it was easy to expect something at the PT, the teaser created by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro for the then canceled Silent Hills, but this is not exactly the case. The Still Wakes the Deep teaser game is an Atari 2600 style multi-event arcade that somewhat introduces the scenario. Still Wakes the Deep is set on a collapsing oil rig built near the Scottish coast. Finding the teaser game is really difficult, given the completely different title and the pleasant genre. It’s not even the same development team. It almost seems like a puzzle to be solved, in short.

Whatever it’s called Oil Strike ’75 and it’s downloadable for free from Steam. It is billed as a “Fun, exciting and educational new game from Cadal Corp.” The satirical intent seems already quite evident from here. Regardless, it sets the player’s goal to operate an oil rig and discover new deposits at the bottom of the sea “no matter what the cost.” You already understood that it will end badly, right?
Initially it seems to be made up of a series of old-fashioned minigames, including platform phases, excavation phases and helicopter transport phases. But he soon reveals his true face, in ways we won’t tell you about. After all, it is available free on Steam, so it’s worth playing for the 60-90 minutes it lasts.
We specify that it is not essential to play it to enjoy Still Wakes the Deep, of which it was designed as a simple introduction. However, it could prove enjoyable if you are waiting for the complete adventure, which will be available starting June 18, 2024 for PC, Xbox Series Bear in mind that you can also play it immediately via a subscription to Xbox Game Pass.
