Steven Spielberg to direct ‘Bullitt’ remake | FormulaPassion.it

The film ‘Bullitt‘from 1968 is a well-known title among car enthusiasts. The protagonist of that film was in fact Steve McQueena true car fanatic, and the main scenes unfold around a fantastic chase, with the actor engaged in a Ford Mustang. Lieutenant Frank Bullitt became so important to the automotive world that Ford made special versions with his surname: there have already been three, starting in 2001.

The news is that there will be a new film dedicated to Frank Bullittand will even be directed by Steven Spielberg. The film will be produced by Warner Bros, with screenplay written by Josh Singer. The remake will not be ‘total’, as the idea is to differentiate the plot from the original film; however it is assumed that even this time the presence of cars will be fundamental.

Steve McQueen’s son Chad and his granddaughter Molly McQueen will executive produce the film. According to Carscoops Spielberg had been cultivating this project for some time, and the biggest hurdle turned out to be negotiating with the McQueen family for the rights to the character. It’s unclear when Spielberg’s film could hit theaters, but as the script has yet to be written, it won’t be out any time soon. Among other things, it will be very important to find a Frank Bullitt able to ‘replace’ Steve McQueen worthily in terms of charisma and, hopefully, for driving skills.

The only currently pressing doubt regarding this film is precisely the type of audience it will meet. In the film industry the desire to recover the classics of the past to make new money machines has always been great; However there have been very few cases in which a remake has surpassed the original version in terms of criticism and prestige. Just think, to stay on the subject, of the unattractive modern films dedicated to Herbie, the crazy Beetle.
