The free update of Stellar Blade available from today has quietly introduced some uncensored variants of two costumes from the base game that had sparked controversy at launch, as they had been edited to be less provocative.
But let’s go step by step. As you may recall, Stellar Blade faced some criticism at launch, despite Shift Up promising it wouldn’t happen, in the form of changes to two costumes, Cybernetic Bondage and Holiday Rabbit, to cover protagonist Eve’s body more, which sent some of the players were furious. Yesterday, Shift Up announced the arrival of a free update with a new mode, published today, presenting the new contents with a PlayStation Blog post and a series of images, without however mentioning that among the new costumes there are also two variants of the two aforementioned skins that feature the original design, without any modifications.
The new costumes
In the image above you can see the two new costumes “Midsummer Alice” and “Midsummer Redhood” introduced with today’s patch (for completeness of information, you can unlock both by purchasing them from Roxanne to Xion). Comparing them with the images in the post below it is clear that they are practically identical to the original design of those censored at launch. The one on the left shows more skin on the hips, while the one on the right shows more skin in the breast area.
At the moment it is not clear why Shift Up decided to introduce these costumes but without modifying those already present in the game or why this novelty was omitted in the details reported on the PlayStation Blog. In any case, it should dampen the controversy of part of the community.
Meanwhile, Shif Up has confirmed that it is working on a second free update to Stellar Blade, which will introduce a photography mode and additional costumes for Eve.
