Over 12,000 people workers and politicians (and not only) took to the streets in Turin to express their disappointment regarding the discussions between the Italian government and Stellantis regarding the future of the Mirafiori plant. The request is unambiguous: a concrete strategy is needed to relaunch the Turin production complex. Without answers, says the secretary of Fiom-Cgil, Michele De Palma, “we are ready to go to Palazzo Chigi”.
Mirafiori in the sights
The unions' request concerns a increase in production: there is talk of the need to include an additional model for the body shops and a production target of 200,000 cars. But will this new model arrive? Difficult to say, certainly Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, during the inauguration ceremony of the new eDCT Plant in Mirafiori, preferred don't go too far once asked about the topic.
Stellantis remains in Italy
Tavares himself, on that occasion, however, had expressed his opinion on a possible farewell of Stellantis to Italy. Categorically denying it: “We are in Italy to stay, or rather to strengthen our leadership”. And Antonio also spoke about the future of the Italian-French group in our country Tajanithe Minister of Foreign Affairs: “I have received assurances from Stellantis that it will remain in Italy and that there is no desire to abandon the country.”
Everyone in the square in Turin
Reassurances according to Tajani, not according to the unions who want to keep their guard up. Repubblica writes on newsstands this morning: “For the first time almost 15 years after the referendum and the separate contract, Fim, Fiom and Uilm they return to demonstrate together for Mirafiori. A protest that spreads to other acronyms, Ugl, Fismic and the Fiat Managers and Managers Association which represents the white collar workers, an acronym inherited from those who organized the 40,000 march in 1980 to put an end to the pickets which, for 35 days, had prevented people from entering Mirafiori. Behind the banner 'The relaunch of Turin starts from Mirafiori' also entrepreneurs, such as Dario Gallina, former president of the industrialists and number one of the Chamber of Commerce, and the vice-president of Api, Pierangelo Decisi”.
