The automotive industry is constantly evolving, and Stellantis is positioned as a leader of change thanks to its ability to combine advanced technology,
sustainability and optimization of production processes. The Factory Booster Day 2024now in its ninth edition, represented a fundamental opportunity to demonstrate Stellantis’ commitment to innovation. The event took place on September 18 at the Mirafiori Complex in Turin and saw the presentation of well 93 new solutions intended to improve vehicle production, with a reduced environmental impact and increased efficiency.
Factory Booster Day: An Engine for Innovation
The Factory Booster Day confirms itself as a key platform for interaction between Stellantis and innovative partners, such as startups and suppliers. Thanks to the process of “Open Challenge”plant managers were able to gather innovative ideas ranging from automation to energy consumption reduction. With over 300 proposals examined over the past three years, the Stellantis team has been able to select the best technologies to implement in its global factories.
As pointed out by Arnaud DeboeufChief Manufacturing Officer of Stellantis, the collaboration with production partners has led to concrete results: from 2021the company has reduced the 11% transformation coststhe energy consumption of the 23% and the quality problems of the 40%.
Key Innovations: From Cloud to AI
Among the most significant innovations of the Factory Booster Day, some technologies presented in past editions are already proving their value.
Autodesk Construction Cloud: presented in 2022, this cloud-based system accelerates collaboration between Stellantis and its suppliers, thanks to the creation of digital twins of manufacturing facilities. Using shared data and simultaneously simulating building layouts helps reduce waste and streamline processes. After the success of the Windsor, Canada plant, the system has been extended to the Sterling Heights, Michigan, plant.
GuideNow with Inbolt: thanks to the use of theartificial intelligence and 3D vision, robots can adjust their operations in real time, avoiding conflicts or impacts during assembly operations. This system, introduced in 2021, has improved quality and reduced waiting times in powertrain installation.
wheel.me: a Norwegian startup that created autonomous wheels to transform existing carts into mobile robots. This solution, introduced in 2022, has automated the movement of parts within factories, increasing efficiency and reducing costs without disrupting existing workflows.
Ambitious goals for the future
The innovations presented during the Factory Booster Day 2024 are in line with the strategic plan Dare Forward 2030which aims to make Stellantis a company zero carbon emissions within the 2038The objectives of the plan include:
A reduction of the 40% production costs by 2030, through automation and the adoption of digital solutions.
Leadership in the Product qualitythanks to advanced defect detection technologies and improvements in customer experience.
The continuous demolition of the carbon emissionswith a reduction already recorded of 20% in production areas 1 and 2 from 2021.
Collaboration and Technology: The Road to Success
Stellantis’ commitment to improving its production processes, thanks to technological solutions like AI and digital twinsdemonstrates how innovation can go hand in hand with sustainability. The Factory Booster Day represents a unique opportunity to gather the best ideas and implement them on a global scale, confirming Stellantis as a visionary leader in the automotive sector. Thanks to a close collaboration with external partners and the continuous search for technological improvementsthe company aims to achieve levels of excellence, both in terms of production efficiency and reduction of environmental impact.
