Here is the new McLaren
On Valentine's Day the McLaren officially presented itself to its fans with the unveil of the new MCL38. A livery that, in reality, the Woking company had already revealed in mid-January through an unexpected publication of the first ever photos of the car on its social channels, with the single-seater of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris which in fact became the first to have attracted global attention.
Continue to progress
February 14th, therefore, was the day of the formal presentation of the MCL38, the first car designed and built entirely under the management of Andrea Stella. The Umbrian engineer, Team Principal of McLaren, had in fact held this role at the beginning of 2023, with the project of the previous MCL60 already underway. The British team's priority objective will be to continue on the constant improvements implemented in the second half of last year, with the opportunity to bring home a success that has been missing since 2021 with Daniel Ricciardo and which would be equivalent to the first ever for both Norris and for Plates in F1.
Start off on the right foot
“The team is excited to present the MCL38 today and see it on track for the first time – declared Stella – Looking ahead to this year, we look to build on last season's momentum, but we are realistic in the knowledge that each team will have made progress and found the competitiveness for their 2024 cars. Now we have everything in place from an infrastructure, people and culture point of view, so we continue to push forward and capitalize on the work done to return to the front row. Before we hit the track for competitive sessions, we have a lot of work to do, including putting the MCL38 through its paces during pre-season testing in Bahrain. The team did a good job over the winter and we are confident that we can start off on the right foot straight away, but we know we have important tasks to do before the season begins. There are several innovations on the car, but not all the areas we want to address have been completed for our launch car. These areas are now the focus of our seasonal development, which is already underway. My thanks go to the entire team, both trackside and at MTC and MRC, for their great effort in ensuring the car was ready to hit the track today, as well as to our colleagues at Mercedes HPP for their continued collaboration. We now turn our attention to the long season ahead of us, awaiting the tests in Bahrain next week.”
The work continues
Enthusiasm also expressed by Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren and he too is eager to see the team's progress materialize without generating excessive expectations: “It's fantastic to be able to launch our 2024 competitor, the MCL38, today at Silverstone – he added – It's fantastic to see our new car in the 2024 livery on the track and to see the hard work and dedication of the team. What's great about the sport is its competitiveness, and so we have to remain realistic, because each team will have made progress during the season. The real test to see if we have taken steps in the right direction will be qualifying in Bahrain. We're all excited to get back to racing, but we know we have a long season ahead of us and that There is still a lot of work to do to ensure we build on the progress made throughout 2023“.
