Valve has decided to increase the recommended price of games on Steam in many countries. This leads to the increase in the price of mid-to-high-end games, which will be the reference for all the others. The increases are pouring in almost all over the world, but some nations are being hit heavier.
For example, in Argentina the price of a game goes from 649.99 pesos to 3800, with an increase of 485%, while in Turkey from 92 to 510 Turkish lira, with an increase of 454%. Europe is also affected by these increases, with prices rising by 9 euros and 3 pounds in England.
Recommended prices are not mandatory, and it has often been the case that publishers have greatly exceeded them, however this base increase will entail an adjustment by all those who have published the games on the Valve platform. In a time of inflation and energy crisis (keeping the servers on costs) one could expect a similar maneuver which, however, affects those who have a single outlet such as videogames in this period.
Unfortunately, the biggest risk is a massive increase in piracy. We hope this does not happen (lower sales equate to lower investments which in turn equate to fewer developments in the gaming world).
We hope this period will not last long and that everything will return to normal as soon as possible.
