The monetization system live service is dying? Not really, at least according to the global top 10 Of Steam of this Easter weekend, which is dominated by games that belong to this model. Eight of the top twelve positions in fact see the presence of live service games, led by the inevitable Counter-Strike 2, a real gold mine for Valve.
Are live services dead?
In second position we find Helldivers 2 by Arrowhead Studios, followed by PUBG: Battlegrounds and Apex Legends. The first non-live service game in the ranking appears in fifth position and it is Dragon's Dogma 2 by Capcom, however down compared to recent days. Having passed Steam Deck (hardware), we find the card game Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel by Konami, then Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red, returned to the top of the rankings because it is 50% off. Following another historic live service: Warframe, launched way back in 2013, then another name on the market for more than a decade, Path of Exile, also dating back to 2013. Closing out the top twelve positions are Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, not just a primrose (it's from 2015), and Baldur's Gate 3.
The ranking of the most played shows, as always, a similar picture, with only Stardew Valley, Dragon's Dogma 2 and the Wallpaper Engine and Source SDK Base 2007 software occupying four of the first sixteen positions, the rest of which are full of live services.
