For days now there have been rumors of the arrival of one State of Play at the end of May 2024, i.e. within a few days. For now there are no official confirmations on the matter, but the rumors have been supported by PlayStation itself. More precisely, from a statement by president Hiroki Totoki in the press release with which he announced the appointment of two new CEOs at the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino.
In the textin addition to explaining the roles that the two will play, it is anticipated that: “Later in the month you will know more about the long-term vision of the Sony Group and on the essential role of SIE in this vision. As I said previously, fiscal 2024 marks the beginning of the medium-term plan for the Sony Group, in which we will lay the foundations for sustainable growth.”
The possible future
Many have clearly read in these words the announcement of the arrival of something big for the end of May, such as a major State of Play or a real E3-style presentation, in which PlayStation will dictate its future finally showing what he has in the works for the next few years.
Naturally we are not faced with a real announcement, but it must be considered that, as always when a new power takes over, in this case two new CEOs, there will be a great desire to show the public and investors that it is a turning point is underway, to increase trust in the PlayStation brand and in Sony itself.
It’s difficult to say what could be announced, given that there are many PlayStation Studios whose projects are not officially known. Santa Monica could be working on a new God of War and on Cory Barlog’s famous new intellectual property, Naughty Dog has just canceled a practically completed game but, in general, there are very few Sony first party games that we actually know something about . In short, there is so much curiosity and we can’t wait to find out more.
