Stars PSG beat Feyenoord opponent Marseille in ‘Le Classique’

PSG is almost champion of France thanks to the victory. The star ensemble of coach Maurico Pochettino has fifteen points more than Marseille with six games to go. Marseille’s lead on number three Stade Rennais is three points.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Xavi Simons saw from the bench how the home team took the lead against the rival after twelve minutes. Neymar worked the ball nicely into the goal after a beautiful pass from Marco Verratti. After more than half an hour of play, it was equal again via defender Duje Caleta-Car. Lionel Messi thought he would put his team back in the lead twice, but both times the party for PSG was canceled due to offside.

Despite the disallowed goals, the home side led at half-time. In the closing seconds of the first half, PSG received a penalty after a handball from Marseille. Kylian Mbappe did not fail from eleven meters: 2-1. In the second half, the Frenchman also seemed to make the 3-1 on a pass from Messi, but his goal was canceled due to offside.

Marseille looked for the equalizer in the final phase and it seemed to come when William Saliba scored on a perfectly measured free kick by Dimitri Payet. However, the VAR again blocked a goal in ‘Le Classique’. PSG, where Wijnaldum came in in the 80th minute, breathed a sigh of relief and booked a narrow victory over the Feyenoord opponent in front of their own audience.

On Thursday, April 28, Feyenoord will play at home against Olympique Marseille in the semifinals of the Conference League. The return is a week later, on May 5, in the Stade Vélodrome.
