The second episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte brought the universe created by George Lucas one of the most drastic traditions of the Jedi Order: the Barash Vow. But what is it exactly? Here we explain it to you.
In Star Wars: The Acolyte we see how Assassin Mae arrives at a Jedi temple on the planet Olega to assassinate Jedi Master Torbin.. However, his first attempts are useless, as he fails to overcome the deep meditation in which Torbin is immersed. Later, he manages to break that barrier and discovers that the master took the Barash Vow.

Star Wars: the Barash Vow, meaning and origin
The Barash Vow is an oath taken by Jedi Knights when they decide to withdraw from the world.. This path involves a full retreat from the Jedi Order and a deep focus on meditation and reconnecting with the Force.
According to current canon, over 14,000 Jedi took this vow. Named after Jedi Master Barash Silvain., who lived during the High Republic era. After a terrible mistake on a mission that resulted in the loss of many lives, Barash decided to withdraw completely from the Jedi Order as an act of penance. This vow was named in his honor and was adopted by other Jedi over the years.
What other Jedi took the Barash Vow?
In addition to Barash Silvain and Master Torbin, Jedi Master Kirak Infil’a and Jedi Knight Dez Rydan also took the Barash Vow.. Kirak, known for his combat prowess, survived Order 66 due to his retreat to a Jedi monastery, but was subsequently killed by Darth Vader on his first mission with the Sith armor.
