The films of Star Wars they are not just action, but they certainly play an important role within the saga: a good fight with lightsabers can excite fans and now someone would like an entire film based on this component. Let’s talk about the actor Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks in the Prequel Trilogy and most recently Jedi Master Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian. Best said he wanted to make a film that was essentially a “John Wick Jedi“.
Speaking to ComicBook, Best said his brief appearance in The Mandalorianwhere his character helps young Grogu escape Order 66’s attack on the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, is only a small part of what he would like to do.
“I want to create a ‘John Wick Jedi’ as Kelleran Beqand I don’t even have to say any words,” said Best. His words clearly refer to the fact that in John Wick the dialogue is few and concise and that the action does the talking.
“I just want to do two hours of lightsabers and people trying to get in the way. I really want to do something like that because the fighting I did for The Mandalorian is a tenth of 1% of what I could do. And there’s much more.”
Kelleran Beq’s fighting style
Best also elaborated on his character’s fighting style, explaining that “The style that influences Kelleran Beq comes from the Philippine martial artsand no one really knows how profound these arts are.”
“Most Jedi are influenced by the Japanese samurai, but the Filipinos beat the samurai and they beat the Spanish. Their way of moving, their style and the weapons they use are revolutionary. So much so that much of what Bruce Lee does in Jeet Kune Do is influenced by Philippine martial arts. So I really want to bring this out through some sort of Jedi story.”
For now it’s just Best’s wish, but never say never. In the meantime we can prepare for the arrival of the next Star Wars series: The Acolyte The Follower.
