Supersport has returned to Donington after three years of absence and the British weekend has given a great show, but the real protagonist is always him: Dominique Aegerter. The reigning world champion does not stop winning and on the English track he signs a new double, going to consolidate his leadership in the standings. The season is still long, but seeing the form of the Ten Kate driver, the 64 points advantage over his direct rival, Lorenzo Baldassarri, suggests a serious mortgage on the second title.
But, as always in racing, you can never talk in advance: a demonstration of this was Race 1, which had two starts and a close fight until a few laps from the end. The first stop was caused by the accident of Peter Sebestyen at Turn 4, followed by the fall of Unai Orradre. With the quick start procedure, the race resumed and in the 11 laps completed it was a struggle without discounts for the podium positions.
Great disappointment for Nicolò Bulega, who crashed while he was in the lead after having mocked the two rivals in the standings. With the Ducati rider out of the game, the duel between Lorenzo Baldassarri and Dominique Aegerter was born, with the latter stuck in traffic in the early stages but then slowly recovered. The Swiss, with a decisive attack, took the lead, then passed under the checkered flag with four tenths of an advantage over the Evan Bros. team driver. For Aegerter, therefore, the eighth victory of the season arrived, thus bending the his direct opponent.
Fighting for the last step of the podium were Can Oncu, Yari Montella and Raffaele De Rosa. The latter got a great start in the finale, going to take his first podium of the season. The Orelac team rider preceded his compatriot, while the Turkish was satisfied with fifth place. The two drivers of the Dynavolt team, Stefano Manzi and Hannes Soomer, are sixth and seventh respectively, with Andy Verdoia eighth. To close the top 10 Marcel Brenner, ninth, and Oli Bayliss, tenth with the other Ducati.
Race 2 took place on a regular basis, but the outcome did not change. Once again Dominique Aegerter has imposed himself, going to equal the record of Andrea Locatelli. For the Swiss came the ninth consecutive victory and clear superiority over his opponents. Nothing was able to Lorenzo Baldassarri, who followed suit, contenting himself with the second position.
Once again, standard bearer ten Kate was a wait-and-see in the early stages, leaving the leading trio of Baldassarri, Bulega and Caricasulo to battle. It was in the second part of the race that Aegerter started to show up, overtaking one after the other and winning with a little over a second advantage.
To complete the podium we find Baldassarri, who pays 64 points in the standings, and Nicolò Bulega, third in Race 2 and much more detached in the standings with 125 points behind the top. Federico Caricasulo had to settle for fourth place, who was unable to keep pace with the top three throughout the race. The Althea rider precedes Stefano Manzi, fifth, while Raffaele De Rosa, after the podium in Race 1, did not go beyond the sixth place. However, Italy can be satisfied to be able to boast five tricolor drivers in the first six positions.
Adrian Huertas is seventh ahead of Can Oncu, who is also more late than in Race 1 and eighth. Closing the top 10 are Andy Verdoia and Simon Jespersen. The crash of Jules Cluzel in Race 2 should be noted: the Frenchman was thrown off his bike and remedied several fractures, so the conditions will have to be checked before Most, the next round of the season in two weeks.
