The National Rassemblement of Marine Le Pen will no longer sit with the German AfD party in the ID group in the EU Parliament. A decision that follows the statements of the leader of the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the European elections, Maximilian Krah, who stated that “an SS is not automatically a criminal”.
“We will no longer sit with them in the next legislature,” announced Jordan Bardella’s campaign manager, Alexandre Loubet. The decision comes after a series of statements aimed at rehabilitating the SS, released by the AfD leader for the European elections on 9 June, Maximilian Krah, to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
The intolerance of the League and Giorgetti’s premonitory words
And “as always, Matteo Salvini and Marine Le Pen are perfectly aligned and in agreement”, says the League, after the position taken by the Rassemblement National in view of the future composition of the Id group.
According to parliamentary sources, reflections in the ID group had been ongoing for some time. In the Northern League delegation, in particular, the intolerance towards the Germans of the AfD was palpableand not from today: “When the Germans go out of their way, we will bring the rides and have a party in the square”, the then Northern League MEP Gianantonio Da Re declared to Adnkronos already in 2021.
Da Re recently left the League, due to his critical line towards the federal secretary, but his intolerance towards his German colleagues was far from isolated. The decision announced today by the French Rassemblement National, with the agreement of the League, makes it easier to understand the response given over a month ago in Luxembourg by Giancarlo Giorgetti, who has never made a secret of not liking the closeness in Strasbourg with the AfD, which represents a boulder on the road to dialogue with the EPP, given that for the German CDU/CSU, hegemonic among the Popular Party, a dialogue with the German far right is excluded.
In the latest initiatives of an international nature organized by the Lega Alternative fuer Deutschland “he was not on stage”, he underlined, when asked about it in Luxembourg, on the fortieth anniversary of the foundation of the Lombard League. But in the next legislature you risk finding yourself with the AfD again: “No – Giorgetti replied – you say that. It seems to me that in the last public events Alternative fuer Deutschland was not there, together on stage”. But in the next legislature they will most likely be the first delegation from the ID group: “You know more than me. Goodbye”, the minister cut short, smiling. It is likely that he already knew what was going to happen.
