Square Enix he published his financial results regarding the past nine months of the current ongoing fiscal year, between April and December 2023, once again demonstrating declining revenues despite the sales of Final Fantasy 16but with some optimistic forecasts for the next quarter.
In some cases, sales show a positive sign: total sales amount to 257.612 million yen, which shows a +0.8% compared to the previous year, while operating income at 34.918 million yen shows a net – 15.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
As for the Digital Entertainment division, which includes video games, the sales net profit was 179.654 million yen, down 2.6%, while operating profit was 30.715 million yen, a notable drop of 20.7% compared to the same period last year.
PC and console games good, MMO and mobile bad
Going more specifically, sales of “HD games”, as console and PC titles are defined, excluding MMOs, are increase from 58.1 to 66.8 billion yen, thanks mainly to the release of Final Fantasy XVI, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince and Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters.
However, dragging the results down is a decline in sales in the area MMORPGfrom 40.5 to 34.8 billion yen, probably due to users' anticipation for the next expansions of Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest
Even sales in the field mobile they dropped from 85.7 to 78 billion yen, with the new titles released not managing to establish themselves much on this front.
