Spotify continues to modify its services according to a freemium model, which attracts numerous users with the possibility of signing up for free but limits essential functionality through a paid system. The free version of Spotify lets you explore new music, albeit of lower quality, at no cost. However, a new restriction has recently emerged that is causing discontent among users: the inability to view song lyrics without a Premium subscription.
According to what some users reported on Reddit and confirmed by other sources, the platform has started hiding song lyrics for users of the free version, making a paid subscription necessary to be able to sing along with the lyrics in real time with the music. The new model, which currently affects a small number of users, provides a certain number of text views without having to pay, with the request to sign up for a subscription if the threshold is exceeded.
The limitation in question, therefore, is added to the other limits of the free version of Spotify: free users in fact have to listen to non-skippable advertisements and can only skip six tracks per hour. Also, you can’t choose the playback order of the songs. These restrictions may push some users to sign up for the Premium subscription, but at the same time they represent a strong incentive to consider alternatives such as YouTube Music, known for its convenience, or Tidal, appreciated for its large library of lossless quality tracks.
