The celebration witnessed a special participation of the first captain of the UAE national football team, the great player Ahmed Issa, the first to lead the country’s team in the Gulf Cup in 1972, and he was the first to carry the country’s flag in this Gulf championship, which enjoys great attention and follow-up from the fans and decision-makers in the sports sector in the region.
In his speech during the celebration, Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, Secretary-General of the General Sports Authority, said: “Our celebration of Flag Day this year is of special importance, as it coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the UAE. We affirm that the General Sports Authority will continue to work to achieve more achievements that contribute to the industry of the future generation, by providing all the ingredients that contribute to creating champions who raise the flag of the UAE high in all sports and continental forums and competitions.
He added: “The founding fathers laid strong foundations for building the State of the Union, and today our wise leadership continues to work according to a piercing vision whose goal is to become pioneers in all fields. We in the sports sector will be keen to prepare a generation of promising champions who are able to compete and achieve achievement to raise the name and position of the UAE and its national flag, and to emphasize the impressive and distinguished presence in all tournaments.”
He concluded by saying that the presence and participation of the great Emirates star Ahmed Issa is a symbolic sign aimed at honoring the first generation of UAE athletes, and that their presence today and their contribution to the experiences they possess will have a great impact in supporting the UAE sports march.
In turn, the Almighty Captain Ahmed Issa said: “This historical moment will remain in my mind, and I will not forget it for life.
