Ciudad Juarez.– Through various donation programs, the Association of Parents of Children with Cancer and Leukemia AC (Apanical) seeks to raise funds for treatments for 15 children and young people.
The cases being treated are nine children and young people with leukemia, the rest with osteosarcoma, histiocytes and stomach cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, said Eleonora Negrete, director of the association.
It is through sponsorship programs, blood donations, financial resources in kind, sales of association t-shirts, mugs, glasses, key chains, chocolates and memorable teddy bears, that Apanical gathers resources to pay for the support, said the director.
She said that another way to help is by joining the ongoing blood donation campaign through the BANSUA blood bank, open to companies or any institution; to register you only need to call the association to schedule your appointment.
Regarding the sponsorship program, he explained that the donation is one thousand pesos per month.
“No child is left without treatment, but with this we ensure it. The goal is to have five sponsors for each child,” said the director of the association.
Any donation in kind or money can be made at the office, located at Ejercito Nacional Avenue, 6325, Los Portales neighborhood, in the south condominium building.
He said that the plastic cap collection program is no longer in place because the recycling company could not find a company that would buy the material, so they will not work on this project again.
“The caps could no longer be sold, so it was decided to close it down since there was no one to buy them. We spent about six months looking for another recycling company, but we didn’t find anyone, and it was already becoming an expense to collect the material at the points, and we still have a year’s worth of material,” explained the interviewee.
The director asked the community not to bring more plastic material to the association, since they were fined. “We ask you in the most respectful way to stop bringing your material.”
She explained that the amount obtained from 900 bottle caps, or a kilo of plastic, was 3 pesos and 50 cents, so it only covered part of the association’s expenses, since they collected 5 thousand pesos a month and the expenses are more than 400 thousand pesos a month. (Verónica Domínguez)
