The Spanish Football Federation and the Professional Women’s Football League reached an agreement regarding the salary of the Spanish referees who demanded better working conditions. Based on this negotiation, the F League of the first division of Spanish women’s football will begin its activity this weekend.
After the strike carried out on the first day of the F League, the referees accepted the formula set out by the government entity that stipulates 35,000 euros per year for the main referees and 18,000 euros per year for the assistants. As of the agreement, which is signed for a period of six years, the referees will not only enjoy an employment contract that did not exist until now, but they will also achieve the protection of labor rights and a stability that they did not have until now.
In this season there will be 54 referees: 22 main and 32 assistants.
Despite the improvement achieved, the distances with their male peers are still wide: while the main referees of women’s football receive 1,666 euros per match, their male colleagues receive 4,200 per match and up to 7,000 in Champions League matches.
