The ambassador of the Republic of South Korea in Spain, Bahk Sahnghoon, announced yesterday that he will share information about the industrial valley of Escombreras with the private sector of his country to “try to expand the number of companies based in Cartagena.” He did it on an official visit to the city, where he was received by the mayor, Noelia Arroyo, at the Town Hall.
Bahk praised the history and culture of the municipality and celebrated the “good relationship” with his republic and the importance of the Ilboc industrial company, located in Escombreras and specialized in the production of cutting-edge lubricant bases.
Bahk Sahnghoon visited the facilities of Ilboc, owned by the South Korean company SK and the Spanish energy company Repsol, and placed it as a “point of union” between the two countries. In the Golden Book of the City, he wrote: «Korea and Spain, strategic partners. Many more achievements under the great leadership of Noelia Arroyo, Mayor of Cartagena.”
The head of the factory, Joaquín García-Estañ, recalled that the company “recently decided to increase its production capacity by up to 140%” and that the investment may be increased in the future, “when it gains a greater presence in the European market”. The crisis over the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he acknowledged, affects him because of the cost of supplying raw materials.
