“To become a competitive dancer my ending up was actually by chance. As a child, I did gymnastics. Once the rehearsals were canceled because of a dance competition and I stayed to watch them. I got excited about the music and the beauty of the dance. I was 8 years old then.
When I was young, I would have wished for more height. I used to think I was 170 centimeters tall, but when my 14-year-old son and I recently compared our heights, the result was 168. Maybe age has taken a couple of centimeters from the spine.
Making the Dancing with the Stars program is interesting, but surprisingly tiring for all parties involved. It takes a lot more than the skills of a dancer to bring out the good in a couple. The most important thing in teaching dance is human knowledge and emotional intelligence, which are used to read others. Physics comes on that side.
I graduated as an osteopath three years ago. Having a background as a dancer has many advantages in the profession. Reading, approaching and touching another’s body is familiar. Knowledge of osteopathy is useful in a dancer’s work. I know better where the body stretches, what is good for myself and how to take better care of myself.
When I do a movement as a dancer, it still feels the same as when I was young, but when I see myself, I realize my body is lying. The store is not as big or otherwise as great as I imagine. However, aging is not only a bad thing. I hope that the years will bring depth and self-confidence to the dance.”
