Fernando Fernandes says that audios from ministers of the Superior Military Court demand recognition and reparation
The lawyer and researcher Fernando Fernandes stated, during live this Saturday (23.Apr.2022) from Prerogatives Group, that the military must recognize the tortures carried out by the military dictatorship and apologize. Curator of the audios that revealed statements by STM (Superior Military Court) ministers about the practices, Fernando also said that the purpose of the research is not to confront the Armed Forces.
“Our objective in this research is to make the recognition of abuses committed by the military during the exception regime. To move to Brazilian democracy, the military must recognize the existence of torture and apologize for the abuses committed” said the lawyer.
Fernandes stated that there is a “full connection” between the military dictatorship and the moment Brazil is experiencing today, citing the position of the Judiciary in relation to Operation Lava-Jato, which politicized the decisions.
“We will come to the moment when the Judiciary, the MP will still apologize for what they committed at this moment in Brazilian history. It is necessary to understand that there is a full connection between the military dictatorship and what we are experiencing today.”, said Ferdinand.
The researcher also said that the criticism he receives that the research “only sees one side” of the story makes no sense and is an attempt to disqualify the work.
“There is a permanent discourse that we are only dealing with one side. It is practically an attempt to disqualify that we are a bunch of communists who are only dealing with a leftist position. We’re not dealing with that. We are not dealing with one side. We are dealing with a fact: the abuse of the Brazilian State. There’s only one side to deal with“, he said.
