Natural ingredients, plastic-free packaging and water-free vegan formulas to protect skin and the planet
Sunscreens, so necessary especially in these summer months for our skin, contain compounds based on sunscreens or ultraviolet filters to block the harmful rays of the sun that contain chemicals, such as oxybenzone and octylmethoxycinnamate, which accumulate in ecosystems. marine and freshwater causing alterations in the environment and may cause hormonal and reproductive disorders in the species that inhabit it, such as coral reefs. Every year, 25,000 tons of sunscreen end up in the oceans, according to environmental organization Green Cross.
That’s why when Alessandro Mancini arrived with his family in 2015 to Ibiza and became aware of that reality, he got to work. “To be honest, sitting on the beach with my family, I had never stopped to think about how chemicals in sunscreen products could affect water quality. I learned about natural sunscreens thanks to my wife. She is Australian and grew up in a country much more aware of skin problems. One day, a friend of mine suggested I create a natural sunscreen. I immediately embarked on this project and, through some basic research, I quickly realized that chemical-free products would be beneficial not only for the skin, but also for the sea in which I love to swim,” explains Alessandro for who «Sol de Ibiza is not just another sun protection brand, it is a movement towards a more sustainable future. As a leading European brand of certified organic mineral sunscreens, we believe that skin protection should not come at the expense of the environment. That’s why we use natural, ecological and cruelty-free ingredients in our products. “We also use plastic-free and zero-waste packaging, so everyone can enjoy their time in the sun knowing they are doing their part for the planet.”
Ecological sunscreens based on zinc oxide as a physical mineral filter that protects against UVA and UVB rays and that, by eliminating titanium dioxide, nanoparticles and microplastics, protects the skin and cares for the environment. Water resistant, it leaves no residue in the marine environment but also points out that “water is as important as the sun and we are very aware of the scarcity of water at home in Ibiza and around the world. That’s why our sunscreens don’t need water, so we simply don’t use it. We prefer it to flow in rivers and streams, plus a waterless sunscreen means it has no preservatives and has a higher concentration of active ingredients. “It’s better for your health and for the entire planet.”
