Sofia Goggia, tibia and fibula fracture confirmed: surgery
Bad injury for Sofia Goggia. The champion of Italian skiing he suffered a fracture of the tibia and fibula. Accident occurred while he was training in the town of Temù, in the province of Brescia, when he stepped with his right leg into a door that turned to the right. Unfortunately the season is over. The champion will be operated on at the “La Madonnina” Clinic in Milan in these hours.
The 31-year-old athlete from Bergamo currently leads the Downhill classification with 350 points and she had a considerable advantage over her rivals: the Austrian Stephanie Venier in second place is at 261, while the Swiss Lara Gut Berhami is at 209. It is unlikely to think that Sofia Goggia, without being able to compete between now and the end of the season, could win the trophy which she has already won 4 times in her career (there are still four downhill races to go on the calendar: two in Cras Montana, one in Kvitjell and the finals in Saalabach).
The Italian ski champion is also having an excellent season in Super-G where she was fourth (at 237 points, with Federica Brignone just ahead at 246, chasing the Gut-Hutter duo at 320 and 310 points respectively).
Sofia Goggia who this year also returned to excellent levels in Giant Slalomwith a crescendo in performance (fifth in the last race held at Plan de Corones) and ninth place in the general classification.
Goggia underwent surgery and stopped for 40 days, 'I'll get back up again this time'
Sofia Goggia underwent “successful” surgery to reduce “a displaced multi-fragmentary articular fracture of the right tibial pilon”, and will have to remain still for 40 days before starting the most active part of the physiotherapy. Fisi made it known after the fall during training in Ponte di Legno. “Another injury that interrupts my pursuit of a new downhill World Cup – declared the unfortunate champion from Bergamo before entering the operating room -, but this time too I will be able to get back up”.
