Xbox continues its commitment to cloud gaming. Microsoft has announced a collaboration with Amazon and starting this July, Xbox cloud gaming will be available on Amazon Fire TV devices. For practical purposes, this means that Xbox titles can be played without having to have a console and with devices that, together, cost around 100 euros.
“Play more games without needing a console,” is how Xbox announces its collaboration with Amazon. For years, Microsoft has been betting on cloud gaming and, although it is still in beta, the truth is that Xbox Cloud Gaming works surprisingly well. Until now, it was only available on computers, mobile devices and some Smart TVs. The objective of this collaboration is to facilitate access to this service and for many more users to start using it.
What do you need to play on the Xbox cloud?
There are two basic requirements to play in the Xbox cloud on any device: an Xbox Series . Once you have that, you can access Xbox Cloud Gaming through a smartphone, a computer, some smart TVs and, as of now, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.
The price of this configuration will depend on the version of Fire Stick used. The most basic is the Fire TV Stick 4K for 36.99 euros on Amazon and the higher version is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max for 46.99 euros. Taking into account that an Xbox controller costs between 51.99 euros and 59.99 euros, the maximum price that the entire set up would amount to is 106.98 euros for the hardware and then a monthly payment of 17.99 euros. The cheapest configuration would cost 88.98 euros.
Is it the future of gaming?
Traditionally, the video game industry has sold consoles at a loss. During the first years of each generation, the objective of companies is to sell a lot hardware for players to invest in software (which is more profitable). But, since the launch of Xbox Series X|S, it seems that Microsoft is changing its strategy.
The Redmond company has been investing in its cloud gaming service for years. Its goal may not be to replace Xbox, but it wants its brand to reach many more users, whether they have a console or not. Xbox is slowly becoming an umbrella brand that brings together PC, console and, now, a wide range of Internet-connected devices.
We will still continue to see consoles for many years. In fact, Microsoft assured a few months ago that they are already working on the next generation. But, just as happened with the digital format, cloud gaming is here to stay and, probably, what is now a curiosity in a few years will be a new standard in the way of playing.
