The final race of the World Cup did not go as planned for Sweden’s Emma Ribom and Switzerland’s Nadine Faendrich.
I ski the world cup was concluded at the weekend in Salpauselä, and in addition to tight joint start races and final decisions, the women’s final race saw a very special situation.
Kerttu Niskanen skied in the top group of the entire 20 km (p) race on Sunday and eventually finished fifth. He won the overall competition of the world cup of normal distances.
In one ascent, Niskanen had pressed the bow on top of the hill, when Sweden’s Emma Ribom and Switzerland Nadine Faendrich still skiing one after the other towards the top.
However, the journey was unexpectedly interrupted. Faendrich skied so close to Ribom that his right ski got caught in Ribom. The women tried to break away from each other, but after almost half a minute of shaking, Ribom had to untie his skis to get free.
In the end, Ribom was 36th and Faendrich 39th.
