Skiing Russia’s attack on Ukraine brought obscene messages to the Ski Association before the Salpausselä Games

Inappropriate messages are split in half between threatening and substandard messages.

Russian The war of aggression in Ukraine has intensified the atmosphere during the Salpausselä Games in Lahti over the weekend. The management of the Ski Association has received some dozen e-mails related to the competition of Russian athletes.

“It is said that half have been threatening and half have been sub-style,” Ski Association Commercial Director Jari-Pekka Jouppi says of the inappropriate feedback it received from HS.

Jouppi says that he was already in contact with the security manager of the Games on Thursday. The matter has been discussed with both the organizers and the police.

“The police went through a risk analysis and a security assessment for us, and we kind of got instructions from the police.”

In the matter despite the tension of the atmosphere, there is nothing unusual, as the Ski Association goes through safety issues under every event, regardless of the status of the race.

“We trust that the Finnish authorities, and especially the police, will tell us if we have to do something very special,” says Jouppi.

Executive Director of the Ski Association Ismo Hämäläinen tells HS that it ‘s normal for emails to come when people react.

“There have been no threatening emails, I can say that directly. There have been statements, but no threatening e-mails have been received, ”says Hämäläinen.

Also Jouppi says that he has received factual questions related to Russian athletes. For example, he has been asked why the Russians are competing in Lahti.

“The multiplier, as it is legally, is that the race organization does not have the opportunity to exclude an individual competitor or team. That is the job of the International Ski Federation (FIS). ”

The FIS canceled all its end-of-season events in Russia on Friday. The organization did not forbid Russian athletes to compete.

Blocking back Secretary General of the Games Tomi-Pekka Kolu confirms to HS that the race organization has had a safety debate, as is customary.

The contents of the dialogue cannot be opened by Kolu because security matters are not public information.

He was the first to report the obscene messages received by the management of the ski association Evening News.
