Israel announced this Thursday the death of the leader of Hamas and mastermind of the attacks of October 7, 2023, Yahya Sinwarin an Army attack in Rafah, Gaza. Upon confirmation of the news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured that his death “is the beginning of the day after Hamas,” although he later clarified that the Israeli “mission” is not over.
The Israel Defense Forces themselves have been in charge of demonstrating, through images and videos, the death of the terrorist leader. The military spokesman, Daniel Hagaripublished several this Thursday night and explained the troops’ operation.
“Sinwar was hiding in an area that our forces had long surrounded. We didn’t know it was therebut we continue to operate with determination. Sinwar fled towards one of the buildings. Our forces used a drone to inspect the area, as you can see in the images I present to you,” Hagari explained.
In that video, a man is seen with his face covered, visibly badly injured and sitting among the rubble. At one point, the man throws a stick at the drone, which avoids it without any major problems. Hagari said that at that time they had no confirmation that it was Sinwar.
“We identified him as a terrorist inside a building, we shot at the building and then we went in to look for it. We found him with a vest, a gun and 40,000 shekels [moneda israelí]”, he said.
Sinwar’s murder is a serious blow to Hamas, whose political leader, Ismail Haniyawas already killed on July 31 in Tehran in an attack attributed to Israel.
