Sinner also misses the Rome Internationals due to injury
After Madrid, Jannik Sinner skips the 2024 Internazionali d’Italia, scheduled at the Foro Italico in Rome from 6 to 19 May. The Italian, number 2 in the world, withdraws from the tournament due to the hip problem that forced him to withdraw before the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000.
Sinner’s message
“It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome“, writes the 22-year-old from South Tyrol on social media. After withdrawing from the Madrid tournament, Sinner underwent tests which ruled out significant problems. The discomfort that had already emerged in Montercarlo, in the semi-final lost in 3 sets against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, evidently not it has been completely overcome and should not be underestimated.
When Jannik returns
“Obviously I’m very sad not to have recovered, as it’s one of my favorite tournaments ever. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd,” adds Sinner, who at this point aims to return to the field at Roland Garros, second round of the Slam scheduled in Paris from May 26th. “I will still come to Rome for a few days and stop by the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support which I appreciate very much! Now I will work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros. See you soon, come on, “concludes Sinner in his message.
