Bagnaia loses the lead of the World Championship
The World Championship has a new owner and, perhaps, a new protagonist. Jorge Martin, with two second places at Silverstone, has in fact regained the lead of the championship, while Enea Bastianini has made full-blown and he got to -49 from the Spaniard. Francesco comes out defeated Bagnaiadown yesterday and third today: “Pecco” takes the lead right away and sets a pace of management, nevertheless halfway through the race he enters into crisis with the rear tire; Martin and Bastianini take advantage, overtaking him in the space of four laps. In the maneuver suffered by his teammate, however, Bagnaia loses the front for a moment and risks the second fall of the weekend, which brings him back to his senses making him settle for third place.
Bagnaia’s words
The world champion believes he does not have a new opponent in the World Championship, because he has never excluded Bastianini from the fight for the world championship: “Enea has always been in the game. Every weekend there are 37 points up for grabs, and this weekend he earned me 21. We need to stay on top of things, we know Enea’s speed: if he also gets his consistency right he can definitely be a fearsome opponent. Last year he had the season we all know, and if he manages to calibrate the results this year he is definitely another driver who can always fight for the top positions like me and Martin“, this is Bagnaia’s comment on Sky Sports MotoGP.
On the race, the #1 has not much to reproach himself for: “I’m satisfied because after yesterday it was important to finish the GP. It wasn’t easy because I got in front and tried to manage as much as possible but unfortunately I couldn’t push so much with the medium front so I had to push more with the hard rear, and I struggled more. I tried to go behind Jorge but when I lost the front at turn 7 I just tried to get to the end because after yesterday it was important to finish the race. Honestly when Enea starts strong on Friday he is usually a tough nut to crackhe is very strong in the final phase of the race and he showed it today too“.
“I expected to manage the rear more, but it was a consequence of not being able to push with the brakes on the front because you can see quite clearly that I was always pointing a little to the outside every time I tried to push and I went longer, and this put me in difficulty. It’s not the first time that when I can’t push with the front then I run out of tire at the back. It can happen, in the end it’s important to have finished the race and achieved a good result: today it’s fine like this“, he concluded. “I tried to follow them when they overtook me but there was no way because it was better not to risk it, so I’m happy. Austria on August 17-18? I’m going strong there, like in Misano, I think that today’s podium can be repeated in Misano because Enea and Martin are very strong there“.
