On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its foundation, which took place in Rome on September 24, 1934, Siaarti (Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care) celebrates its past and looks to the future with the announcement of the birth of the Siaarti Foundation, a new body dedicated to the promotion of scientific research and the humanization of care.
The commemorative event, which is being held today at the Refectory Hall of the Chamber of Deputies, will see the participation of important institutional and academic figures and leading representatives of Italian political and health institutions. Ugo Cappellacci (President of the XII Commission of the Chamber of Social Affairs), Anna Teresa Palamara (Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità), Loreto Gesualdo (President of Fism – Federation of Italian Medical-Scientific Societies) have accepted the invitation to speak at the institutional greetings, while Americo Cicchetti (General Director of Health Planning of the Ministry of Health) and Velia Bruno (Interim Director of Cnec-Iss) will take part as moderators in the day’s proceedings.
The celebration, after the institutional greetings, continues with a series of speeches that retrace the history of Siaarti, from its foundation to the present day, underlining the importance of the scientific and clinical contribution offered by the company over the decades. The Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci sent Siaarti a greeting message, in which he highlights how the 90th anniversary is “a milestone that bears witness to a long history of growth and innovation” and underlines how “the path we are celebrating today also offers the opportunity to reflect on how scientific progress and the adoption of best practices can continue to promote excellence in care”.
The day, attended by the Siaarti Board of Directors and a large representation of its Regional Councils and its Cultural Sections, continues with speeches dedicated to the future challenges of anesthesiology, the importance of guidelines in clinical practice and Siaarti’s commitment to continuous training and patient safety. “This anniversary – commented Antonino Giarratano, Siaarti president – represents not only a historic milestone for our Society, which today has over 10,000 members, but also a starting point for new challenges. With the birth of the Siaarti Foundation, we intend to consolidate our commitment to scientific research and the dissemination of good clinical practices, contributing significantly to improving the quality of Italian healthcare”.
Giarratano also highlighted the importance of collaboration between Siaarti and the institutions: “Siaarti is a scientific company that operates in various fields, from training to clinical research, through the production of scientific documents, guidelines and good clinical practices. However, our Company – he underlines – is not limited to the training and scientific field alone, but maintains a close relationship with the political decision-maker. We actively collaborate with the Minister of Health, the Parliamentary Commissions of the Senate and the Chamber, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Agenas and the regional health systems. This allows us to offer a technical contribution to the institutions, which allows Politics to develop bills and regulations that directly benefit the citizen patient”.
The Siaarti Foundation, whose constitution was made official at the Siaarti headquarters – a note reports – includes in its Board of Directors prestigious figures such as the past-president Siaarti and Esicm Massimo Antonelli, the Editor-in-Chief of the Siaarti magazine “JAACC” Giorgio Conti and the current Siaarti treasurer Stefano Romagnoli. The Foundation, which will be registered with the Miur as a research body, aims to attract funding for large scientific and humanistic projects, as explained by president Giarratano: “Our Siaarti will not only continue to be a point of reference for the scientific community, but thanks to the Foundation it will be able to explore new opportunities for funding and collaboration, further expanding the boundaries of our discipline”.
Even the Siaarti vice president and future president 2025-2027 Elena Bignami, expresses great enthusiasm for the future of the Society: “I am very happy with this new adventure that awaits me in the coming years. Our goal – she explains – is to work together, in an inclusive way, not only within our community, but also by collaborating with other specializations and institutions, at a national and international level”.
