Mexico City.- This afternoon in the Tierra Blanca and Tres Ríos sectors of Culiacán, a series of shootings were reported and explosive devices were thrown at a home, causing chaos in Sinaloa.
Videos went viral on social media of the moments of panic experienced by diners or customers of establishments in Plaza Cuatro Ríos and its surroundings, upon hearing explosions or seeing groups of soldiers marching in riot gear.
At places like Yokozuna Ramen 4 Ríos, diners were seen throwing themselves on the floor or hiding under tables. From the top of a building in Colonia Alameda, neighbors saw fire coming out of a building.
“They set fire there, threw a grenade, threw something and left, in fact they are driving around. It’s that truck below, there they are,” said a settler in the video.
The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that it was responding to reports made through emergency numbers. “Gunshots and a presumed house fire have been reported in the Alameda neighborhood. Authorities from all three levels of government are coming to verify,” the state SSP said shortly before 5:00 p.m. The deployment of law enforcement is extensive, on this day that 600 elements of the Mexican Army arrived to reinforce security. Meanwhile, the Governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, is not in the territory, as he traveled to Mexico City to hold a meeting with the President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, in which they would address security issues.
