According to National Border Service (Senafront), the shipwreck occurred during the early morning, very close to Carreto Bay, an isolated town located on the Atlantic coast of Darién in an area inhabited by the Guna Yala ethnic group.
“Today (Wednesday) in the early hours of the morning, information was received about the discovery of bodies of lifeless migrants by immersion,” Senafront said in a statement, without giving details about the number of victims.
