Former Russian biathlete and State Duma deputy Anton Shipulin reacted to the death of world and European junior champion Igor Malinovsky. The ex-athlete’s post is available on the social network “In contact with”.
Shipulin expressed condolences to the family and friends of Malinovsky. “We were familiar with Igor. A good, kind, modest guy, a bright and talented athlete. He loved biathlon, but helicopters were his even greater passion, ”he said.
Shipulin added that together with the team he was going to fly the same route as the crashed biathlete, but changed his mind: the flight was considered risky due to fog.

“He loved biathlon and aviation. After completing his sports career, Igor became a pilot and worked in his native Kamchatka. The entire biathlon family mourns,” the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) said in a statement.
President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Olle Dahlin also expressed his condolences in connection with the death of the Russian. “The IBU and the biathlon family regret the loss of Igor Malinovsky,” the functionary said.

Malinovsky was a multiple winner of junior competitions and studied at a flight school
Malinovsky repeatedly won the gold of the world and European championships among juniors, was a master of sports of Russia. In 2017, he made his debut in adult biathlon. Malinovsky took part in the IBU Cup – the Russian became fourth in the mixed relay and 23rd in the sprint.
The biathlete took part in the World Cup for the first time in the same year, in the sprint at the stage in Holmenkollen (Oslo) he took 86th place
In 2021, he put his career on hold due to health issues. Malinovsky also studied at a flight school.
