In line with all the games made by Atlus in recent years, too Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will employ the little-appreciated anti-tamper system Denuvo for the PC version on sale on Steam.
As usual, there was no official announcement, with the information simply confirmed by the game's official page on the Valve store, at least this time well in advance of the release date, set for June 21, 2024, at contrary to what has been seen in sensational cases, such as those of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Lies of P where this DRM was added just a few days after launch.
Criticisms of Denuvo
Denuvo is used by publishers to protect upcoming games from piracy, at least in the weeks and months immediately following publication. Sometimes, some companies decide to remove this DRM completely once the initial sales push is over, but we are talking about a small percentage of cases.
Users generally frown upon Denuvo, as it appears to have a negative impact on the workload and consequently the performance of the system. Having said that, the system requirements for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance speak of a game that even a PC with several years on its shoulders should manage without difficulty, so even if the anti-tamper negatively affects performance it is likely that many will not even they would notice.
