Wherever you look on the street, the purple-white, apple-green and dark-green two-wheelers whiz around and are parked all over the city with equal ease. The promise is sympathetic. Instead of taking the car – which causes congestion and pollution – people would opt for the environmentally friendly shared scooter. However, research shows that only a small proportion of users are car owners.
Providers Felyx, Check and Go Sharing are now competing with each other for the leading position in scooter sharing in Rotterdam. How it works: via the provider’s app you can see where the nearest scooter is parked, unlock it with one push of a button and off you go. You pay per minute. That amount is around 30 cents for all providers.
