Shakira confesses to still believing in love, despite her breakup with Gerard Piqué: 'I have witnessed love'

There was a lot of talk about their separation, rumors circulated for months in Spain and part of the world, but since Shakira and Piqué There were no words about it, until a few months ago, when the Colombian decided to speak.

A few days ago, the Barranquilla artist gave an interview to the magazine Marie Claire of United Kingdom, as part of her media tour after the release of her album 'Las mujeres ya no Lloran', a phrase that became iconic in the world.

The singer opened her heart and confessed that she still believes in love and can see it every day with her parents, the greatest example of her life and who have loved each other for several decades.

“I can't say that I don't believe in love because I see the example of my parents after 50 years together; how they look into each other's eyes and they hold hands and cannot live apart from each other,” he said..

But the Colombian explained that she was not so lucky: “I have witnessed love, I just haven't had that luck.” Explaining his views on true love, he decided to quote British poet Oscar Wilde to describe what it can be found.

“Oscar Wilde said that friendship is the purest form of love and I believe that is true. It lasts longer, at least in my experience. My relationship lasted 12 years, but my friends will be there for a lifetime. When difficulties came, that was when I learned how truly important friendship was,” said the 47-year-old artist.

Shakira She also spoke about some details of her relationship with Gerard Piqué, which led her to have a catharsis in the middle of the interview and made her remember those difficult moments she went through.

“I was trying to be reborn or die in the process. Each of the 16 songs describes a moment when I was dealing with or working through an intense emotion. I was in flight or fight mode (to) empower others to find their own strength,” he said.

I always thought I was a weak and fragile person; that I wouldn't survive certain situations. Then, suddenly, life presented me with all those situations at the same time and I wondered if I was going to survive. But I did. And now there are fewer things I fear.”

“I always thought that having a husband was the most important thing in my life… I was looking for that man like my dad, with whom I would have children and then make plans to be with him forever, like my parents, who are still so in love.
