Sexual crimes|Finnish violinist Linda Lampenius, who lives in Sweden, was one of the many victims of millionaire Peter Nygård who watched the trial held in Toronto on Monday.

Linda Lampenius comments on Peter Nygård’s sentence for sexual crimes.
Nygård received an 11-year sentence for crimes against four women.
Lampenius told of his relief and the expiration of the non-disclosure agreement.
Nygård’s son, Kai Bickle, who turned against his father, tells HS that it is important to create opportunities for people to safely talk about their experiences as victims of crime.
Initially a WhatsApp message will arrive.
“I was boiling inside when I listened to everything the judge said. The fears and emotions of all these years came to the surface.”
Then comes another.
“I’m happy for the victims who won.”
Finnish violinist living in Sweden Linda Lampenius was one of many millionaires by Peter Nygård of the victims who attended the trial in Toronto on Monday. On trial Nygård was given an eleven-year sentence for sexual crimes against four women.
HS asked Lampenius, who followed the trial via Zoom, to comment on his feelings after Nygård’s verdict. In a phone interview, Lampenius said he opened a bottle of rosé wine when the verdict was read.
“Of course, I think about all the victims he has raped, and there are so many of them,” Lampenius said on the phone from Stockholm.
There are potentially at least more than 120 victims based on a class action lawsuit filed in the United States. According to Lampenius, Nygård’s sentence would seem lenient if he did not have many other sexual crimes-related trials awaiting him: at least two in Canada and two in the United States.
Lampenius guesses that 83-year-old Nygård will not live to see the final stages of each of his trials. Nygård has 6.7 years to serve of the eleven-year sentence, but he can apply for parole after 27 months.
Of my own on the other hand, Lampenius was greatly relieved. He considers that he is no longer bound by the non-disclosure agreement that he had to sign with Nygård in 2001.
“Now he can’t do anything for me,” Lampenius said in a joyful and relieved voice.
Nygård never attacked Lampenius physically, but he did all the more to humiliate Lampenius in courtrooms and in the media. Lampenius gave an interview to 7 Päivää magazine in 1998, in which he warned Finnish women not to go to Nygård, who is popular in social circles and has homes in the United States, Canada and the Bahamas.
Nygård had shown Lampenius vulgar photos of naked people at his parties at his Bahamian mansion, which Lampenius told in an interview. Nygård filed a lawsuit and demanded compensation of around 50 million euros in today’s money for defamation.
Lampenius and his parents ran into great financial difficulties due to Nygård’s legal attacks and legal fees. Lampenius says that he was on the verge of suicide three times and drifted into a serious cycle of eating disorders.
“He managed to break my health and my mother’s health. I was so close to ending my life three times because of Nygård. Now those feelings come to the surface, when there have been those moments and thoughts that I can no longer live”, says Lampenius.
Lampenius got rid of Nygård by signing a non-disclosure agreement in 2001. In addition, he had to buy a full-page ad from Ilta-Sanom, in which he asked Nygård “forgiveness”.
Lampenius’ heart was warmed on Monday when a Canadian judge Robert Goldstein said that there are signs of narcissism in Nygård’s character. Goldstein did not believe Nygård’s explanations about how much his health had deteriorated in prison or how badly he had been treated in prison.
“He has not received special treatment, but very good special treatment,” Goldstein said.
According to Lampenius, Nygård’s defense claims about poor prison conditions reminded him of Nygård exactly as Lampenius remembered him when he first met him: a self-absorbed narcissist.
“He is used to a luxurious life. He is like a king whom everyone else serves,” says Lampenius.
Lampenius says that he has taken great risks in speaking negatively about Nygård in public since Nygård was arrested in December 2020. His lawyer from the United States had warned that Lampenius cannot yet be sure whether it is prudent for him to open his mouth.
“Only today, now, I have the right to get the paper from the court in California stating that our non-disclosure agreement has been revoked,” he said on Monday.
Nygårdin son I guess Bickle sent HS a brief statement of his own thoughts on Monday.
Bickle turned against his father five years ago when he first received hints of his father’s crimes. He also dropped his Nygård name.
“Nygård used his wealth and power to silence his victims and cover up his crimes. He hired people to silence his victims through lawsuits and other means. It is important that we create opportunities for people to safely share their experiences [rikosten uhreina],” Bickle said.
When Bickle found out about her father’s criminal nature, she began secretly helping victims, lawyers and authorities from Nygård to put Nygård behind bars. Bickle encouraged many victims to seek justice against Nygård.
“At first it broke my heart to take such extreme measures against my own father. But when you find out about raping women and children, nothing else matters except that this person needs to be stopped,” Bickle said In an interview with HS in February 2021.
